Millions of tourists come to Florida every year. Some plan on going to the beaches, some come for the theme parks and some come to get out of the cold. No matter what reason brings you to Florida, taking a day to experience the “real” Florida should be on your must-do list.
What’s the real Florida? Well, for starters, Florida is home to so much more than sandy beaches, Mickey Mouse, and Harry Potter. People often over look the beautiful wildlife that our state has to offer. From the tropical birds, lizards, and alligators – there is no better way to see wildlife in its natural setting than an airboat ride! If you have never experienced an airboat ride then be sure to plan it during your next trip to Florida! You won’t regret it!
Last week, Kate and I decided go out and re-experience an airboat ride! In Central Florida there are about a dozen different companies to choose from. So, which one? When it comes to planning something like this – I am all about reviews and research… (Just like my FTG website!)
This time, we chose Marsh Landing Adventures/Orlando Airboat Tours! Unlike most airboat tours, Marsh Landing Adventures is located only a short thirty minutes from Universal, SeaWorld and Walt Disney World.
Once we arrived, we were greeted with smiles and very friendly service. After checking in at the office we drove the short half-mile to the boats.
You also have tour options. They offer one hour, ninety minute and two-hour tours… Which tour is best? While all their tours are good and informative – we recommend the two-hour tour – simply because you have the opportunity to see the most wildlife.
Once you get out onto beautiful Lake Tohopekaliga, you instantly forget where you are, the highways, theme parks, and hustle and bustle melts away in to pristine marshlands. You won’t experience traffic jams and street noise out there, but you do experience some massive alligators, birds, and all sorts of other wildlife!
During your tour, the captain will tell you stories about the American Indians and the history of the early settlers who carved their trails into the swamps of Central Florida. Your journey will take you right through the swampy marsh and wet prairie… so always have your camera ready!
And, Marsh Landing Adventures has seven United States Coast Guard licensed captains! Our Captain, Jim, was phenomenal! He was extremely friendly and you could tell he really cared about the quality of our two-hour tour.
One of our favorite features about Marsh Landing Adventures is their boats… Most airboats seat twelve – fifteen passengers, which, in season, can be cramped – and harder to capture a good picture! Their boats hold six! (Talk about a personal tour!) And, all of them were very clean and featured ‘stadium style’ seating so everyone gets a good view!
Will children enjoy Marsh Landing Adventures? Yes! Definitely! And, obviously, all those under the age of six are required to wear a life vest.
Marsh Landing Adventures is a great experience for any age, and we will never forget ours!
We not only saw the wildlife that we wanted to see, we learned what the real Florida is all about… In a way, our experience at Marsh Landing Adventures was one of the best ‘thrill rides’ we’ve ever been on!
